HYDE PARK — South Side Projections will give a glimpse into queer culture in South Africa.

At 7 p.m. July 18, the film group will host a free screening of two of Mpumi Njinge’s documentaries at the Hyde Park Free Theater, 1448 E. 57th St.

Njinge died of an AIDS-related illness in 2002, but before his death he completed his last two documentaries, “My Son the Bride” and “Everything Must Come to Light.”

“My Son the Bride” follows the struggles of a young man trying to navigate family and community during his same-sex marriage.

“Everything Must Come to Light” is about three lesbians in Soweto who are traditional healers delving into the role of their ancestors in their abilities to heal and their sexuality.

After the screening, Andrew Baron, who has collaborated with South African refugees on performances since 2011, will lead a discussion of the documentaries.
