Three Wounded in South and West Side Shootings, Police Say

CHICAGO — Three people were wounded, one critically, in gunfire on the South and West Sides Thursday night, police said.

In Garfield Park, a 34-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 3200 block of West Congress Parkway around 11:20 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was shot in his abdomen and armpit and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, Estrada said.

In Auburn Gresham, a 40-year-old man was sitting in the driver seat of a parked car in the 1000 block of West 77th Street when a gunman walked up and opened fire at 10:28 p.m., Estrada said

The man was shot in his neck and shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Estrada said.

In Marquette Park, a 21-year-old man was shot in his ankle in the 6500 block of South Maplewood Avenue around 9:30 p.m.. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, Estrada said.

According to police, the man is a documented gang member.
