49-Year-Old Shot in Avalon Park Dies From Wounds, Officials Say

CHICAGO — A 49-year-old man shot in Avalon Park Tuesday morning died from his wounds a few hours later, according to officials.

Around 1:05 a.m. Tuesday, police found the man lying on the ground in the 8000 block of South Maryland Avenue with gunshot wounds in his side and chest, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was uncooperative with police, but was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition, Sedevic said.

Demetrius R. Bottom, of the 7900 block of South Maryland Avenue, was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
