WICKER PARK — Outdoor summer events, including free yoga classes in Wicker Park's namesake park, kicked off last Tuesday and continue through the end of August along with volunteer gardening, movies, a farmers market and more events.

Free Yoga

Scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the south side of the softball field near the park's Schiller Street entrance, 1425 N. Damen Ave., the weekly free yoga sessions are sponsored by lululemon in partnership with the park's advisory council and Chicago Park District.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own mat and water bottle and to wear comfortable shoes. The classes are led by a rotating group of instructors from area yoga studios.

Free Movie in the Park

The first of a six-part movie tribute series to actor and comedian Robin Williams, "Night at the Museum" plays at sundown on Thursday, as part of the Chicago Park District's "Movies in the Park" season.

Members of the Wicker Park Advisory Council will sell snow cones at the movie nights, with free tea samples from David's Tea and free glow sticks also included in the program.

"Each year we try to create a theme that is whimsical, yet familiar, drawing inspiration from the people and events that shape our community," said Tim Kolecke, who chairs the council's movies in the parks committee. "Robin Williams touched the imagination of everyone who saw his movies."

Free Volunteer Gardening, Horticultural Training

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, volunteer gardeners who've been tending to the park's 10,000-square-foot roof gardens since March, will continue to work. It's free to join the group but prospective gardeners must register in advance by email.

Bring along gloves and "wear clothes that you can get dirty," organizers advise.

Free Morrissey Tickets at the Farmers Market

It's free to walk around the market and explore offerings from 16 vendors but taking fresh veggies, flowers, or a crepe home will cost money. Fans of Morrissey, though, can use hashtag #Morrisseyathemarket during the next two Sunday markets to try and win a pair of tickets to the British singer's July 9 show. The farmers market runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays through Oct. 25.

Upcoming free weekly events include musical concerts and puppet shows. Visit the Wicker Park Advisory Council's website for the full roster of summer happenings. The park is located at 1425 N. Damen Ave.
