CHICAGO — Kevin Ross, 35, "will be remembered as a loving father and brother" after he was shot and killed in Washington Heights Monday night, according to a press release by a local anti-violence group.
Roseland CeaseFire and the Ross family hosted a prayer vigil and march for Ross Friday night near the site of the shooting.
Community members said Ross, of the 9200 block of South May Street, was "ambushed by an unknown man in a ski mask and shot multiple times," the press release said.
Around 7 p.m. Monday, police found Ross, shot multiple times in the chest and head in the 9200 block of South Aberdeen Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
He was taken Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 7:52 p.m., officials said. His death was ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
No one is in custody for the shooting.
