PILSEN — One man is dead and another in custody after a fatal stabbing just after midnight Saturday at a Pilsen bar, according to Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Around 12:40 a.m., a man, 43, was stabbed in his neck while inside the bar, Cooper said.

The man was identified as Rodolfo Avina, of the 700 block of North Franklin Street in River North, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. He was stabbed at Simone's Bar in Pilsen, 960 W. 18th St. Police who arrived on the scene found Avina unresponsive, Cooper said.

Saturday afternoon, Cafe Jumping Bean, 1439 W. 18th St., posted a touching tribute on its Facebook page to "Rudy" Avina, who had once lived in their building, according to the post.

"When you've been in business this long, your long-standing customers become your family. I know that I speak on behalf of all our Jumping Bean family, who over so many years had the honor and joy of witnessing and experiencing the absolute inspirational energy that Rudy exuded," the post read.

The post said that Avina was a loving partner and father to three children, in addition to "a successful small-business owner; and a brother and dear friend to us all."

"Rudy was truly, one of the friendliest, kindest people anyone could ever meet, who never hesitated for a second to help someone in need," the post read.

A suspect is in custody for the stabbing, Cooper said.
