HYDE PARK— The Third Annual Chicago Gospel 5K is seeking runners, walkers, veteran athletes and beginners for Saturday's event.

It's not too late to register: The deadline is 8 p.m. Friday.

Packets can be picked up from noon-8 p.m. Friday  at the South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 S. South Shore Drive.

More than 2,000 residents from the South and West sides of Chicago are expected to participate in the event, which is run to promote health in the African-American and Latino communities.

It'll take place at Jackson Park, 63rd Street and Hayes Drive. More than 45 teams are registered. Team sizes range from five members to 200-plus and have been forming since January. Registration is $40 for adults and $10 for children.

The event includes a 5K chip-timed race, a 5K Walk, a half-mile Gospel Kids Run for children ages 3-11.

Participants receive a race T-shirt and refreshments. There will be an awards ceremony and post-race gospel concert. Some proceeds will go to Inspiration Corporation, a nonprofit that helps the homeless.
