LINCOLN SQUARE — If there ever were a day to tap your toes or click your heels, Saturday would be it.

That's when Old Town School of Folk Music will celebrate National Tap Dance Day (unofficially it was on Monday, the birthday of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson).

Reggio “The Hoofer” McLaughlin and a host of special guests will perform a range of percussive dances inspired by the Prohibition era, classic vaudeville and Big Band Swing.

Tap, like jazz and the blues, is a quintessentially American art form — a melting pot of diverse styles that incorporates elements of the Irish jig, Scottish clogging and West African step dances.

Old Town's celebration will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Maurer Hall, 4544 N. Lincoln Ave. Tickets cost $20 for the general public or $18 for members and can be bought online.
