CHICAGO— Here's what we're reading on this gloomy Tuesday.
Did '60 Minutes' Jinx the Yellow Line?: Sometimes we forget the Yellow Line exists but faster than you can say "embankment collapse," this CTA spur has grabbed our attention and headlines. Coincidentally (or was it?!), just this past Sunday, "60 Minutes" re-aired a segment on the frightening state of America's decaying infrastructure. Stay off the bridges, people! On top of that, John Oliver's scathing follow up to the "60 Minutes" report, which dates back to March, turned up in reporter Patty Wetli's Facebook feed over the weekend, along with this Daily Kos article posted in the wake of last week's Amtrak crash. Read/watch all three if you want to have the crap scared out of you about the fact that our roads, rails and airports are trying to kill us.
Person of Interest: Senior editor Andrew Herrmann is reading an interview with the guy behind @Filming_Chicago, a Twitter account that tracks TV and movie crews working in Chicago's neighborhoods. With 7,700 followers, the unnamed tweeter uses city data to track the city's busy film industry. The mystery man, a suburban dad, tells former Sun-Times TV critic Lori Rackl on her new blog TV Trippin that the most common request he gets is "Where is Sophia Bush?" of Chicago P.D. fame.
What's Really in the Blackhawks Gatorade Bottles? Here's a hint, it's not Gatorade. Lincoln Park/Old Town reporter Paul Biasco is reading Crain's piece on the development of a special blend of coconut water that the Blackhawks players drink during games. The Blackhawks head trainer Mike Gapski tried to persuade Gatorade to take out some ingredients including colored dyes back in 2009 and when the company refused, the decided to create his own drink. Coco5 has been a hit on the bench and 18 NHL teams now buy it for their players.
