DOWNTOWN — Thousands of Downtown commuters should expect lane closures near Union station as work begins on a new, long-awaited bus shelter early Friday morning.

The following streets will be impacted, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation:

The roadwork is the latest step in CDOT's Loop Link project meant to better connect the east and west sides of the Loop. Once open, the new Union Station Transit Center south of Jackson will allow bus commuters weather-protected access to and from Union Station, which serves 120,000 people daily. The center is expected to open in the spring of 2016, while the new express bus lanes will be finished this year.
