WEST TOWN — Police are searching for the man responsible for dragging a woman into a West Town alley Tuesday night in a robbery and attempted sexual assault, according to a community alert issued Wednesday.

According to police, around 11:35 p.m. a 29-year-old woman was grabbed by a man and dragged to an alleyway in the 500 block of North Marshfield Avenue.

Once in the alley, the man forcibly took the woman's iPhone and attempted to sexually assault her, police said.

It was then the woman began to yell out for help, police said, at which point the man fled eastbound, crossing over Ashland Avenue.

Good samaritans nearby heard the woman's cries for help and called 911 for her, according to police.

Police are searching for a black man, 18 to 25, weighing approximately 140-160 pounds and between 5'5 to 5'7. He was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a gray zigzag design and black pants.

If you have any information, contact police at 312-747-8380.
