McKinley Park Speed Camera Issues Almost 12K Tickets, $1 Million in Fines

MCKINLEY PARK — A speed camera near Pershing Road and Western Avenue nabbed almost 12,000 speeders since it was installed in October 2013, issuing more than $1 million in tickets, according to city data compiled by DNAinfo.com.

The camera by far was the most successful camera in the Bridgeport/McKinley Park/Back of the Yards area at catching speeders, an analysis of the data shows.

The camera at 3843 S. Western Ave. issued a total of 11,834 tickets since it was installed, including 9,383 tickets for 11 or more mph over the speed limit, which come with a $100 fine. It issued 2,451 tickets for 10 mph over the speed limit, which carry $35 fines.

Another 30,492 warnings were issued to first-time violators caught speeding by the camera.

The camera at 2080 W. Pershing in McKinley Park issued a total of 6,642 tickets — 5,293 for more than 11 mph over the limit and 1,349 for 6-10 mph over the limit.

The camera at 5420 S. Racine Ave. in Back of the Yards issued a total of 2,644 tickets — 2,047 for more than 11 mph over the limit and 597 for 6-10 mph over the limit.

The camera at 2928 S. Halsted St. in Bridgeport issued a total of 929 tickets — 701 for more than 11 mph over the limit and 228 for 6-10 mph over the limit.

In total, the four cameras in the area issued tickets carrying fines of more than $1.9 million.
