NORWOOD PARK — An independent grocery store set to open May 13 at Northwest Highway and Niagara Avenue will host a job fair this weekend, officials said.

Ada's Market and Deli, which has a store in River Grove, is hiring for all positions at its location at 6165 N. Northwest Highway. The job fairs will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the store, officials said.

The store was set to open in April, but rainy and cold weather delayed work on the exterior of the store, which now has a more modern look, complete with steel and black accents, said Brian Margulis, a consultant working with store owner Adrianna Mendel.

Two other grocery stores opened in what had been a long-vacant building during the last two years, but failed quickly.

The River Grove location, which has been open near Grand and Cumberland avenues for 10 years, has a strong track record of success, said Bea McDonough, of the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce.

A coffee bar at the new location featuring java from Intelligentsia will open at 5:30 a.m. to allow commuters heading to the nearby train station to grab a quick caffeine jolt, officials said.
