12-Year-Old Boy Shot in Austin, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 12-year-old boy was seriously wounded when he was shot Wednesday night in Austin, police said.

At 6:13 p.m., the boy was walking in the 5900 block of West North Avenue when he was shot in the back and armpit, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

A family drove the boy to West Suburban Hospital and he was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Cooper said.
