AUBURN GRESHAM — An annual month-long campaign to promote peace kicks off on Friday with a basketball tournament.

The ARK of St. Sabina, the church’s youth outreach program, is hosting its "Hoops for Peace" 5-on-5 basketball tournament at the church, 7800 S. Racine Ave., on Friday.

The players will be split into two teams. Those 10-14 years old will play from 5-7 p.m. and the 15-20 year-olds will play from 7-9 p.m. The registration deadline for players closed last week, but the games are open to the public. Admission is $2.

St. Sabina launched "I Care Week," six years ago to promote peace and offer youths an alternative to the streets. The week became popular and turned into an annual monthlong campaign every May. The next event is the talent show with a special guest judge on May 7.
