CHICAGO — Police are looking for a man in a white sedan after he tried to lure a Lincoln Elementary student into his car Wednesday morning, according to a community alert.

Around 8:30 a.m., a man believed to be white and in his 40s approached the girl, who was walking by herself near the 500 block of West Grant Place, and attempted to lure her into the vehicle by saying, "Kid, get into the car," according to the alert.

The girl was able to scream and run away before the driver fled.

The man had black curly hair and a full beard and mustache and wore a blue plaid long-sleeved shirt. His four-door sedan is believed to be in newer condition with black seats and tinted rear windows.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) has requested an increase in patrols in the area, according to an alert from her office.

"Please take a moment today to speak with your children about the importance of not talking to strangers," Smith said in the alert. "As always, please be aware of your surroundings and dial 911 to report any suspicious activity."

As police search for the offender, they're encouraging parents to spread the news of the incident to fellow neighbors and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

They are also urging parents to use Chicago Public Schools Safe Passage walking routes for children.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North Detectives at 312-747-8380.
