RIVER WEST — Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson has one less thing to worry about this postseason.
The veteran blueliner last week sold his four-bedroom River West townhome for $1.7 million, $5,000 more than his asking price last month.
The riverfront 4,000-square-foot home in the gated Kinzie Park development was built in 2000 and includes marble bathrooms, numerous outdoor spaces, two-car garage and a luxury kitchen with island. NBA star and Chicago native Dwyane Wade sold his townhome in the neighborhood last year for $1.66 million.
Cook County property records show Hjalmarsson paid $1.32 million in 2010 for the home.
Hjalmarsson, 27, has played his entire NHL career with the Blackhawks and was a major contributor to the club's two Stanley Cup championship runs in 2010 and 2013. He signed a five-year, $20.5 million extension with the Blackhawks later in 2013. The Blackhawks on Sunday took a 2-1 lead in a seven-game playoff series against the Nashville Predators, with game four beginning Tuesday night.
