Mather's More than a Cafe

PORTAGE PARK — A number of classes and activities for seniors are scheduled for May at Mather's More Than a Cafe.

In addition to breakfast, lunch and carryout meals, Mather's offers adults older than 50 educational classes, fitness classes, health screenings, consumer seminars, workshops and special events and day trips. The cafe is at 3235 N. Central Ave.

Events scheduled for May include:

• Cinco de Mayo: Eric J. Garcia of the National Museum of Mexican Art will discuss the history of this colorful and festive holiday in a slide-show presentation at 1 p.m. May 5. A donation of $5 is suggested. Registration is required.

• We Are Women, Hear Us Roar Luncheon: Bonnie Bridges will celebrate Mother's Day at 12:30 p.m. May 7 by performing songs in the key of woman, such as "Pretty Woman," "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" The Culinary Delighters will serve lunch. The cost for the meal is $10 and a donation of $7 is suggested for the entertainment. Registration is required.

• Friday Night Concert: Heart & Soul will perform R&B and Motown classics at 7 p.m. May 22. Dinner will be served until 6:30 p.m. A donation of $8 is suggested. Registration is required.
