HYDE PARK — The Hyde Park Art Center is looking for contributions for a time capsule that will be sealed in the new Guida Family Creative Wing, which breaks ground on Sunday.

Artists Daniel Tucker and Rebecca Zorach are looking for Hyde Parkers to contribute an item that “addresses either something important to them today, or sends a message to the future.”

The items will be sealed in a wall of the art center at 5020 S. Cornell Ave. on June 1 and will remain there until the art center’s 100th anniversary in 2039.

Those who want to contribute can contact Allison Peters Quinn, director of exhibitions at aquinn@hydeparkart.org.

The art center will break ground on the new creative wing at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a project that will convert storage space into 5,000 square feet of new studios and classrooms.

The reception for artist Susan Giles new solo exhibit, “Scenic Overlook,” will follow at 3 p.m. The exhibit includes four new wooden sculptures that are two stories tall and are inspired by the four highest observation towers in the world: Tokyo Skytree, Canton Tower, CN Tower and Ostankino Tower.

“April 19 marks a watershed moment in the art center’s development, as we open exciting shows concurrently and also break ground to create expanded space for artists to advance their visions in the audacious ways that have become the hallmark of this institution, while also engaging the public in their creative processes,” said Kate Lorenz, the executive director of the art center.

“Scenic Overlook” runs through July 26.
