NEAR NORTH SIDE — The outgoing interim principal of Ogden International School is leaving because she accepted a superintendent's job in New York, the school said.

Ogden Local School Council Chairwoman Tracy Shine confirmed Tuesday that Shane Goldstein Smith announced her departure from the Downtown school after taking the top job with a New York charter school. Shine declined to disclose the name of the school.

Smith, who did not return messages seeking comment, is the third head administrator to leave Ogden since longtime principal Kenneth Staral resigned in August 2013. Another full-time principal, Joshua VanderJagt, stepped down last summer, and retired Chicago Public Schools principal David Domovic served as administrator-in-charge for a few months in 2013.

Ogden's search for a long-term principal was underway well before Smith's announcement, which came a week before the school's spring break. Shine said the Ogden Local School Council will begin principal interviews soon, with finalists to be presented at a forum next month for parents and staff before a hire is made.

Shine deferred all other questions to Chicago Public Schools, which in a statement thanked Smith for her "commitment and service" to the school system while reiterating a "commitment to work with the Ogden community to identify a permanent principal."

Ogden serves 12 grades and pre-kindergarten on two campuses at 24 W. Walton and 1250 W. Erie streets.
