Police Officers Save 75-Year-Old Tourist's Life on Magnificent Mile

CHICAGO — Two police officers on bike patrol Downtown saved a 75-year-old man's life Tuesday afternoon on the Magnificent Mile, police said.

Around 2:20 p.m., the two officers were on bike patrol when they were alerted of a man choking nearing Michigan Avenue and Walton Street. When they arrived they found a 75-year-old man from Columbus, Ga. lying on the ground not breathing, police said.

Officers performed CPR and cleared the mans blocked airway. Paramedics arrived minutes later and took the man to Northwestern Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

The two officers, Michael Lawrence and Sergio Valdez, work the Area Central Bike Unit. Lawrence is an 11-year veteran of the force and Valdez is a 13-year veteran, police said.
