THE LOOP — The blitz to see the top picks in next month's NFL Draft in Chicago is underway.

The NFL announced Monday that registration for tickets to its annual player draft will open at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Tickets are free, but limited, and lucky registrants will be picked at random. The registration period ends at 10:59 p.m. April 5.

A coup for Chicago, the draft from April 30 through May 2 is headed Downtown after being held for many years in New York. Teams will make their picks at Auditorium Theatre on Congress Parkway, and Buckingham Fountain will light up in the colors of the team on the clock. The Chicago Bears have the seventh pick in this year's draft after stumbling to a 5-11 record last season.

For Chicagoans who end up without tickets, there is a major consolation prize: Draft Town, a 900,000-square-foot football party that will occupy Grant Park during the festivities.
