Weekend Violence Leaves Five Dead, 15 Wounded

CHICAGO — Five people were killed and another 15 were wounded in shootings across the city over the weekend.

Since Sunday morning, five people were slain across the city. Most recently, two people died and another was hospitalized after a shooting at Dolphin, a Bucktown nightclub.

Sunday afternoon, two men in their 20s were found fatally shot in the 5800 block of West North Avenue in Austin, according to Officer Michael Sullivan, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Around 4:30 p.m., the two men were in a car traveling eastbound on North Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire, striking the men. The car the men were driving in hit a parked car and the men were pronounced dead on the scene, Sullivan said.

No more information was available about the shooting and the motive is unknown, Sullivan said.

A 16-year-old boy was also fatally shot Sunday afternoon in Portage Park. Around 12:52 p.m., the boy was walking in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue when a car drove past and someone inside opened fire, Sullivan said.

The boy, a documented gang member, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The most recent non-fatal shooting occurred on the Far South Side around 10:10 p.m., Sullivan said.

A 25-year-old man was shot in his right thigh as he walked in the 700 block of West 115th Street. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Sullivan said.

Around 1:17 p.m., a shooting in the 5800 block of South LaSalle Street in Englewood left three people hospitalized, Sullivan said.

A 24-year-old man was shot in his chest and a 25-year-old man was shot in his hip, hand and back. Both men's conditions were stabilized at Stroger Hospital, Sullivan said.

A 22-year-old woman who was shot in her knee was taken to Christ Hospital, where he condition was stabilized, Sullivan said.

In other non-fatal shootings Sunday night:

• Around 8:25 p.m., a 36-year-old man was shot in his right thigh by someone in a black car as he stood with a friend in the 2900 block of North Long Avenue in Belmont Cragin. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, Sullivan said.

• Around 7:30 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was shot in his leg during a drive-by shooting while walking in the 7900 block of South Dante Avenue in Avalon Park. The boy was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Sullivan said.

The boy is a documented gang member, Sullivan said.

Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, a 35-year-old woman was hospitalized in good condition after being shot while in a cab in Wicker Park.

Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was shot his thigh in Archer Heights, police said.

Saturday afternoon, a 23-year-old man was shot by two men who emerged from a gangway in Englewood.

A 26-year-old man was wounded during a drive-by shooting in Rogers Park Friday night. Also around 7 p.m., a teenage boy was shot in his leg while walking in Woodlawn.

Friday afternoon, three people were wounded on the South and West sides.
