New City Fatal Stabbing Victim Identified

CHICAGO — Police have identified a 40-year-old man who was fatally stabbed Saturday afternoon in New City.

Juan Martinez, of the 2000 block of West 47th Street, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 4:41 p.m. following the fatal stabbing, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Around 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, Martinez was standing outside his home with his girlfriend when the couple was approach by a man, whom they both knew. The man pulled a knife on the man and stabbed him several times leaving the girlfriend unharmed, police said.

A 39-year-old man, who police say is the attacker, was taken into custody. As of Sunday morning, charges against were pending.
