COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Near North Side woman tried to escape police Sunday by grabbing an officer's groin, authorities said.

Arnetha Lofton, 45, was arrested after she threatened an ex-boyfriend inside his home in the 4500 block of West 55th Street, according to a police report.

As the officers escorted Lofton outside, she grabbed one of them "by the scrotum and squeezed, causing instant pain," the report said.

Lofton was detained about 5:30 a.m. Sunday and charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Police had responded to a domestic-battery call at the ex-boyfriend's West Elsdon home early Sunday, court records show. Lofton and the 55-year-old man had been arguing, police said, and Lofton threatened to have the man "dealt with" if he ever came to the North Side.

Lofton, of the 1500 block of North Clybourn Avenue, refused to put her hands behind her back when police arrested her, the report said.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Monday released Lofton on her own recognizance.
