CHICAGO — Two Roseland men were killed in separate shootings that took place three hours and 1½ miles apart, police said.
At 4:26 p.m. a 23-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 11300 block of South Parnell Avenue when another man walked up to him and shot him, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
The man was able to drive himself to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his wounds, authorities said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Derrius Drake of the 11300 block of South Parnell.
Almost three hours later, and just 1½ miles away, a 58-year-old man was standing at the 11400 block of South Prairie Avenue when he was shot in his head at 7:21 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Bernard Monroe of the 11400 block of South Prairie Avenue.
Police were investigating both shootings, and no one was in custody for either.
