WICKER PARK — A flashback to the '70s' Black Soul Movement will be coming to Wicker Park on Wednesday in the form of a modern song artist who combines gospel, blues, jazz and hip hop.
Avery R. Young is scheduled to perform two sets, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in The Bedford, at 1612 W. Division St., just west of Ashland Avenue.
According to the show's organizers, Young's soulful voice is "well armed with climatic screams and a silky, sultry, smooth finish."
Among the evening's highlights will be a performance of "cochise," the first single from Young's upcoming first full-length Kickstarter-funded recording. "booker t. soltreyne: a race rekkid."
Reminiscent of classic '70s Motown sound and containing the authentic soul singing and the biting poetry of the Black Arts Movement, "cochise" also has thumping bass-line and tambourine, among other sounds.
The event is part of a "Vault of Soul" music series. Admission is free. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page.
