Man Killed in West Englewood Shooting

CHICAGO — Police say two people were shot - one fatally - in separate incidents on the South Side Sunday afternoon.

The fatal shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 68th Place in West Englewood, police said.

Police responding to a call of a person shot discovered a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the hip, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman. The man was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he later died.

Police did not know the circumstances leading to the man's shooting. He was a documented gang member, police said.

At about 1 p.m., a 44-year-old male was shot in the 8600 block of South Colfax Avenue in South Chicago, police said. The man was shot in the left side, police said, and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police did not know his condition, but said it had stabilized.

The shooting occurred during a domestic incident, police said.
