CHICAGO — Large ice boulders that washed onto the Lakefront Trail caused the Chicago Park District to close portions of the trail Tuesday morning.

The Park District closed the trail from Oak Street to North Avenue until crews can get equipment in position to clear the trail. Crews will be monitoring the trail to clean it up as soon as possible, a Park District spokeswoman said.

"That stretch is a little dangerous," the spokeswoman added.

The danger didn't scare the committed runners and cyclists who took to the trail despite the low temperatures Tuesday.

Neither the cold nor the icy conditions scared Valerie Mazza, of Edgewater, on her 13-mile run, though she said Tuesday's conditions were worse than Monday's.

"I'm OK with it. I don't have a problem. I just take my time," Mazza said.
