UPTOWN — For those who appreciate art that celebrates an "underground aesthetic," free drinks and supporting the launch of a local magazine, FLATS Studio has an event for you.

The studio is hosting its first exhibit of the year on Feb. 20, which they dubbed "Underground Unseen." The event doubles as a launch party for VAM Magazine, run by a studio that showcases underground artists.

It'll be held at FLATS Studio's Uptown Gallery at 1050 W. Wilson Ave. from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. More than a century old, the gallery formerly housed the Wilson Avenue Theatre and, most recently, a TCF Bank branch.

At the event, expect to see works by underground artists including Todd Diederich, Mikhail Khokhlov, Kristi O'Meara, Allison Van Pelt and Ali 6. Beginning at 8 p.m., DJ Owen Bones and Antibody Corp, a nonprofit that puts on interdisciplinary performance art, will entertain the crowd.

Event-goers who are over 21 years old can drink for free courtesy of KOVAL Distillery and Lakeshore Beverage.

If interested, email Flats at rsvp@flatschicago.com by Feb. 19 and include the number of guests that will be attending.
