UKRAINIAN VILLAGE —   A family-run shop where you can find "The Walking Dead" series as well as hundreds of other popular comic books will be closing its doors on Feb. 28 and running a massive sale with savings up to 60 percent off.

"It's bittersweet for a lot of our regulars. Many are bummed but you've got to do what's best for yourself," said Sean Funston, co-owner of Vigilante Press at 1931 W. Chicago Aver. in Ukrainian Village.

Alisa Hauser explains why Vigilante is closing:

Funston, 42, and his wife, Lily, both longtime Ukrainian Village residents and comic book fans, started their shop in 2006.

The closing sale includes comic books, T-shirts, figurines and fixtures, all discounted between 10 and 60 percent off.

According to a sign in the window, The storefront, just east of the busy Chicago and Damen avenues intersection, is for rent.

Funston said the exit was not related to a rent issue and there are no plans to relocate the shop.

"We're doing it on our own terms; it was time for a change. We are thinking about going to the West Coast, maybe Seattle, but nothing is definite at this point," he said.

The shop receives weekly comic book shipments every Wednesday. Next Wednesday will be Vigilante's last batch of shipments, Funston said.

A "one last blow out party" is scheduled on February 21, and all are welcome to attend.

"We are going to miss the interactions with everyone. Our customers over the years have become our friends," he said.

Leon Pedro, a Little Village resident, bought four comic books on Tuesday evening.
