CHICAGO — As the parents and supporters of Jackie Robinson West rail against the Little League's decision to strip the team of its U.S. title, a high-profile Chicago athlete is weighing in on the matter.

Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs tweeted in support of the team Wednesday — and admitted he also used a fake address to go to school in a California suburb:

"Story time, boys and girls: I used an address to go to Elk Grove High (CA) 40 miles away from my mother's house," Briggs tweeted. "Had I not, there's a good chance I wouldn't have made it to chicago. Still proud. Still my champs, JRW!"

Briggs played linebacker, running back, safety, kicker and punt returner for Elk Grove, California in the late 90s and was a three-year letterman in football at the school.

He shared memories of his high school career with the Elk Grove Citizen in 2012:

“'I remember my senior year, the championship game,'" the seven-time All-pro linebacker for the Chicago Bears remembered. 'I scored six touchdowns, ran for like 330 yards.'

The Thundering Herd easily rolled over Atwater, 77-22, in the most lopsided Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship game ever. Briggs was the star on both sides of the ball, running from the fullback position and nailing opposing backs from the middle linebacker spot."

"Can't believe JRW had to vacate their title," Briggs tweeted. "Really enjoyed following their title run last summer. They were a feel good story for the city."
