LINCOLN SQUARE — Get a taste of German-style Mardi Gras at DANK Haus, where Friday's Women's Night Out is just the beginning of Karneval.
Weiberfastnacht, or Women's Night Out, dates back to the 1800s as part of Germany's Lenten celebrations that lead up to Ash Wednesday.
At DANK, the event, hosted by the Rheinischer Verein Mardi Gras Society of Chicago, will feature Euro pop music, dancing under a disco ball, burlesque performances and gender-bending skits.
Attendees are encouraged to wear Roaring Twenties/Speakeasy-themed costumes. Even though it's Women's Night, men are welcome — especially if they come dressed in drag.
But be warned fellas: if your attire for the evening includes a tie, the ladies are within their Weiberfastnacht rights to cut it off, though you'll be compensated for your loss with a kiss.
Doors open at 7:11 p.m., 4740 N. Western Ave. Five dollars and a yodel (no joke) will get you in the door. Food, catered by Himmel's, will be available for purchase.
