WICKER PARK — A 31-year-old man was arrested on the Damen "L" platform late Tuesday after he struck a Good Samaritan who intervened in a dispute between the man and his girlfriend, police said.

The incident occurred around 11:05 p.m. Tuesday on the CTA platform at 1588 N. Damen Ave., said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Brian Mallet, of the 2100 block of West 73rd Street, punched a 20-year-old man when he intervened in an argument between Mallet and his girlfriend, Estrada said.

When police showed up Mallet ran away but was caught after a brief chase, Estrada said. Officers found brass knuckles on Mallet when they caught him, Estrada said.

He was charged with battery, reckless conduct, resisting arrest and possession of a deadly weapon, Estrada said.
