WICKER PARK — A new chocolate shop on Division Street will be celebrating its first Valentine's Day in Wicker Park after spending 27 years in the Gold Coast.

"Valentine's was always one of our best days of the year; we sold 25 to 30 cases of chocolate. All day long we celebrate," said Dominick Gusmanos, the owner of Mr. Kite's Chocolate, 2120 W. Division St.

Located just west of the Damen Avenue and Division Street, the shop offers 100 milk, dark and white chocolate pieces, including best-selling caramel apples, pixies, s'mores made with peanut butter and caramel filling, and chocolate-covered Rice Krispie treats.

Alisa Hauser says business has been good in Wicker Park so far:

In addition to a selling a wide array of non-edible items like stuffed animals, Gusmanos is gearing up for Valentine's Day with new products like small cakes designed to be enjoyed by two people.

The chocolate and vanilla cakes, which cost $7.95 each, are stuffed with mousse and topped with nuts, cherries and chocolate pieces.

For Valentine's Day, Gusmanos said he has put together different assortments of half-pound to 2-pound boxes of English toffee, truffles and other chocolates "in a nice shape heart shaped box with cellophane and red ribbon."

Prices on the boxes start at $15.

For folks who want to select their own chocolates, Gusmanos said empty boxes are available for filling, with prices around $18 per pound. When sold as individual pieces by weight, the chocolates usually cost around $2 to $2.50 each.

Gusmanos said chocolate delivery fees range between $10 and $15, but he will waive delivery fee on orders of more than $75 within city boundaries.
