PORTAGE PARK — Across the Far Northwest Side, residents dug out from the great Super Bowl Bizzard of 2015, tried to get around — carefully — or just watched the snow blanket their backyards from the warmth of their couches.

But many candidates for alderman — with 23 days to go until Election Day — seized the opportunity to clear snow or have some fun while working to get every vote possible.

On a day when most campaigns would be busy going door to door, supporters of John Garrido did not let the blizzard stop them, as shared by Garrido on Facebook.

Locked in a fierce re-election battle, Ald. John Arena (45th) cleared the Ainslie Avenue bridge in Jefferson Park Sunday afternoon.

Kerry Murphy won't be using her lounge chairs anytime soon, thanks to the thick blanket of snow that fell on her backyard near Harlem Avenue and Addison Street.

The snow buried turned Maurie and Flaurie high atop Superdawg in Norwood Park into Supersnowdawgs.

When you are trying to unseat an incumbent whose family has controlled the City Council, there's no such thing as a snow day. Robert Murphy, who is challenging Ald. Margaret Laurino's bid for re-election in the 39th Ward, vowed to get back to campaigning — right after he built a snowman with his daughter.

Joe Basilone loved drving through the snow Sunday — thanks to his truck's high clearance and four-wheel drive.
