CHICAGO — People trying to sell or buy electronics over social media are getting scammed and robbed in Humboldt Park, police warned Tuesday.
In each of the two robberies, the thieves met the victim at the victim's car. In the first robbery, the thieves had a knife, and in the second, a handgun. The two male thieves stole money, cell phones and electronics, police said in a community alert.
The robberies occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of North Pulaski Road and about 6:25 p.m. Jan. 8 in the 1300 block of North Monticello Avenue, officials said.
Police recommend those arranging offline meetings online should choose a well-lit public location, not their car, and to take down the username, phone number, site listing and any other online information about the sale.
