CHICAGO — A high school freshman was held on $2 million bail Monday after prosecutors said he fatally shot an 18-year-old during a gang dispute.

The shooting happened shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday in the 9500 block of South Halsted Street, Assistant State's Attorney Alex Molesky said in court Monday.

Diasee Scott, 15, was standing outside a Subway with several friends when Bernard Pippen, 18, got off a bus with another group, prosecutors said.

The two groups began to argue and throw gang signs, Molesky said. When the fight became physical, Scott pulled a gun and fired three shots, fatally striking Pippen, according to police and prosecutors.

Molesky said police patrolling the area pulled up toward the end of the fight and saw Scott holding a gun. With the aid of a police helicopter, the officers chased the teen and arrested him a block away a few minutes later.

Police found eight bullets in Scott's shoes, Molesky said.

Pippen, who lives in the 11000 block of South State Street, was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Scott was charged with first-degree murder and held on Monday in lieu of $2 million bail.

Scott's attorney said Scott is a high school freshman who lives with his mother.
