Thomas Merton Society To Celebrate Famed Monk's 100th Birthday

NORWOOD PARK — The Chicago chapter of the Thomas Merton Society will host an all-day event commemorating the 100th birthday of the American Catholic writer, monk, poet and social activist.

The celebration will take place from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 31, at the Cenacle Retreat Center, 513 W. Fullerton Parkway, and feature talks by Vaughn Fayle, of Antonianum University in Italy; Judith Valente, an author and journalist; Pauline Viviano, of Loyola University Chicago; and Shawn Storer of the Catholic Peace Fellowship. 

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include lunch. Reservations are required.
