COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Friday night's fatal West Garfield Park shooting stemmed from an argument inside a barbershop, prosecutors said Monday.

Dominique Brown, 22, was charged with first-degree murder following the Friday night shootout, which killed one man and wounded another. Authorities have yet to charge Brown's 36-year-old accomplice.

It all started around 10:30 p.m. Friday when an argument broke out inside a barbershop in the first block of South Kostner Avenue, Assistant State's Attorney Jamie Santini said during a brief bond hearing.

The 36-year-old accomplice began to yell at the victims, claiming they had reached into his pocket and stolen drugs, Santini said.

Brown and the accomplice left, and returned a short while later armed with guns, prosecutors said. The pair began shooting at the victims, who were now standing outside the barbershop.

Both victims dove behind a parked car, but were ultimately shot, prosecutors said.

Michael Harrison, 33, of the 2700 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was struck in his abdomen and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The second victim, a 31-year-old man, was shot in his foot and leg.

Police patrolling the area Friday night heard gunfire and rushed to the scene, according to Santini. Officers were able to chase and arrest Brown, but his accomplice got away.

Brown, who lives in the 1200 block of South California Avenue, had gunshot residue on his hands and clothing, prosecutors said. And shell casings on the scene were a match to his gun.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered Dominique Brown held in lieu of $2 million bail. It's Dominique Brown's first offense.
