EDGEWATER — The former Carson's Ribs building could be torn down and replaced with a strip mall, the site's new owner said.

Michael Nortman, of Crossroads Development, bought the long-vacant property at 5970 N. Ridge Ave. for $1.15 million. Nortman also developed the new Walgreens and LA Fitness on North Broadway.

Nortman said there were no immediate plans to develop the Carson's Ribs property. But he said he expects to develop a retail strip to take advantage of heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic expected to be drawn to the area by the new Metra station coming to Peterson and Ravenswood avenues.

"I envision more of a traditional retail strip center," he said, which would be "a perfect solution for an eyesore."

Nortman said people can contact his office with suggestions about what kinds of businesses should occupy the property.

The property went up for auction in last March. It was originally on the market for $2.15 million.
