ROGERS PARK — The city's second Pita Pit should open by the end of January near Loyola University, a company official said.

The franchise restaurant has leased space inside Loyola's new apartment building just north of the Loyola "L" station on North Sheridan Road.

Bill Wilfong, a Pita Pit executive, said he expects sales to go "gangbusters" due to the restaurant's proximity to Loyola.

Chicago's first Pita Pit was opened in Lincoln Park. There are three locations in the suburbs.

He said he expects many more Pita Pit franchises to open in Chicago.

"We know that this is store No. 4 in that area, and usually when you get that many stores you have a lot of spin off," he said.

Pita Pit was founded in Ontario, Canada, in 1995 and opened its first United States location in 1999. There are now 500 locations in 11 countries worldwide.

Loyola also has signed leases with BMO Harris bank to open a location in its new apartment building.
