CHICAGO — A 65-year-old man was found dead in a Calumet Heights house fire Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred at a home in the 9100 block of South Crandon Avenue at 1:30 p.m., according to Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.

Firefighters found the man dead at the scene, according to the fire department.

The fire appears to be caused by an accident, Lemmon said.

The victim was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Danny Newell. An autopsy determined he died of carbon monoxide intoxication and inhalation of smoke and soot in the house fire; his death was ruled an accident.
