CHICAGO — Jack Frost will make Monday pretty terrible for most of Chicago — but a few warm, indoor outposts at the Museum Campus hope the promise of free admission will make the trek out worth the trip.
Illinois residents can get free access to the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum, the Chicago History Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry and more Monday and Tuesday.
Free access to the Museum of Science and Industry runs all week, through Friday, with more free days the rest of the weekdays this month: Jan. 12-16, 19-23 and 26-30.
Adler Planetarium admission is free to Illinoisans through Wednesday, and again on Jan. 12-14, 19-21 and 26-28.
The Shedd Aquarium's Illinois resident free days this month are Monday and Tuesday, plus Jan. 12-13, 18-20 and 23-27.
The Art Institute's "Free Winter Weekdays" offer free admission to Illinois residents all day, every weekday starting Monday, through Feb. 10.
Basic admission to the Field Museum is also free Monday through Wednesday, and again Jan. 14 and 15.
Illinois resident free days at the Chicago History Museum are scattered throughout this month, including Monday through Friday this week, Jan 12-15, 19-23 and 26-30.
The Museum of Contemporary Art also admits Illinois residents for free every Tuesday year-round; the Art Institute also admits in-state visitors for free every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Sundays are free days for all at the DuSable Museum.
Thursdays are suggested donation days at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
Free admission at most museums excludes special and touring exhibits.
