CHICAGO — A 19-year-old suburban man was charged with running over a police officer with a stolen van, in West Englewood Thursday afternoon, police said.
Two officers attempted to pull over the van in the 6000 block of South Wolcott Avenue around 2:35 p.m. Thursday when the driver of the van accelerated away, striking a police car, police said.
After striking the squad car, an officer exited his car and the driver again accelerated striking the officer, police said.
The 26-year-old officer was injured in his left leg and possibly sustained a concussion. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Randy Kendricks, 19, of Harvey, then attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended a short time later, police said.
Kendricks was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing identification and damage to public property, police said.
Kendricks is expected to appear in bond court Saturday.
A second man is being sought in the incident. No further information is available.
