CHICAGO — A man was shot in the head while sitting in a car in South Shore Sunday afternoon, police said.

At 1:06 p.m., the 22-year-old man was sitting in the passenger's seat of a car in traffic in the 2200 block of East 73rd Street when another car pulled up and someone from inside opened fire, striking him in his head, according to Officer Veejay Zala, a Chicago police spokesman.

He initially took himself to Jackson Park Hospital, but he was later transported to Stroger Hospital, Zala said, adding that he is in "stable" condition.

No one is in custody, and detectives are investigating.
