CHICAGO — One man is dead, another is in custody and two were hospitalized after a violent incident in South Chicago Sunday night.

Around 9:45 p.m., officers began chasing a man after he opened fire in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue and struck a 24-year-old man in the shoulder, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 24-year-old was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Sedevic said.

The shooter jumped into a car, which was driven by another man, and fled the scene with police following. The suspect's car then hit a woman's car in the 9200 block of South Jeffery Avenue before crashing into a tree, Sedevic said.

The driver of the alleged getaway vehicle was unresponsive on the scene and was pronounced dead a short time later, Sedevic said.

The driver was identified as Deandra Washington, 24, of Dolton. He was pronounced dead at 10:51 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The woman, who age was unavailable, was taken to Trinity Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, Sedevic said.

The 22-year-old man, who opened fire earlier, is in custody, Sedevic said.
