CHICAGO — Google released its annual Year in Search lists Tuesday, revealing what new stories Chicagoans followed this year, and what questions they were too afraid to ask their friends.

LIke, "What is tinder?", one of the top 10 Googled "What is ..." phrases.

Top trending topics were Robin Williams, the World Cup, the iPhone 6 and Ebola. The most Googled film in Chicago was "Gone Girl," which local author Gillian Flynn adapted from her best-selling novel.

Kyla Gardner wonders why Chicagoans don't know what gelato is:

The how-to list might be the most illuminating: Whereas New Yorkers wondered things like how to network, how to focus and how to "wow," Chicagoans took a more casual approach, wondering how to snowboard, coupon and hypnotize.

Chicagoans were also confused about the exact nature of gelato, the Italian ice-cream-like treat, and wanted to know "how to dougie," even though it is not 2010, and hasn't been for some time.
