LINCOLN PARK — A proposal to demolish the Inn at Lincoln Park and build a 147-room hotel in its place will be presented at a community meeting Tuesday.

The owner of the property, Victor Patel, president of LVM Group, plans to tear down the five-story hotel and replace it with an eight-story building.

The new hotel would include 55 parking spots and ground floor retail along Diversey, according to an email from 43rd Ward Ald. Michele Smith.

Representatives from LVM Corporation will present their plans for the project at the 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday at the Elks National Memorial Headquarters, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue.

The proposal for the property, 601 W. Diversey, would require the land to be rezoned.

The hotel was built in 1918 and has 71 rooms.

According to Smith, the current proposal is a "significant reduction" from a previous planned development that was approved in 2004.

Patel, who bought the hotel in 1994, according to Crain's, originally sought to build a 200-room project on the site, but that plan fell through during the recession.
