PORTAGE PARK — With the holiday season in full swing, and the tick-tock of the countdown to Christmas growing louder, this weekend features a full slate for holiday revelers.
Saturday
Families who live in Jefferson Park, Gladstone Park, Forest Glen, Norwood Park, O'Hare, Sauganash, Edison Park and Edgebrook can pick up bags of food designed for a holiday meal starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at New Hope Methodist Church, 7115 W. Hood St.
Children and their families can eat breakfast with Santa from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection College Prep High School, 7500 W. Talcott Ave. Tickets are $10 per child and $6 per adult.
Portage Park will welcome the holiday season with a blaze of lights and a celebration set for 3:30-5:30 p.m. Saturday at Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave.
For the third year in a row, Tim Jahn has transformed his family's Norwood Park home at 6910 W. Farragut Ave. into Christmas central, with approximately 6,000 lights synchronized to classic holiday songs from 6-9 p.m. every night.
Sunday
The Christmas classic "It's a Wonderful Life" will be shown at 3 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Victory school, 4434 N. Laramie Ave. Admission is free.
The Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association is hosting a sing-along concert featuring Handel's Messiah at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave. Tickets are $15.
